Apathy Toward Sin

Apathy: A lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern; indifference.

Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Apathy toward sin is a dangerous attitude because sin gets between us and God so that He will not hear us. When we sin we are not listening to what He wants us to hear and we are disobeying Him. This lack of any two-way communication between us and the All-powerful God who loves us is an immeasurable tragedy. Relationships with no communications are not happy relationships. There is no love passing freely back and forth. It is rather like giving one another the silent treatment or the cold shoulder.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If you have not received Jesus, you are not a child of God, you have always been separated from Him and you are separated from Him right now. Before I received Jesus apathy toward sin was a way of life. I didn*t even know that my sin was sin. I did not know the damage that was done by it. I pray that you will receive Jesus into your heart so He can make you deeply troubled about sin, the sins of others and especially about your own.

Hebrews 1:9: Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

There is gladness connected to loving righteousness and hating sin. But you won*t have any of that gladness until you personally receive Jesus, become a child of God and get over your apathy toward sin. If you have received Jesus, but have become apathetic toward sin, you are missing the oil of gladness and God will not hear your prayers nearly as well or as often as He will when your sins are forgiven.

John 16:24: Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

There is no joy to compare with having the Creator of the Universe hear and answer your prayers. There is no desperation to compare with separation from God. It seems that some individuals slip back into apathy about sin just a few moments or a few days after receiving Jesus. They don*t know or believe the damage caused by sin. Some who have received Jesus years ago seem to have lived in apathy toward sin for a long time. No matter how long we have been saved we can never afford apathy toward sin. We must know the damage it does. I desperately need a pure conscience that wakes me up to my sin so I will confess it and forsake it. So do you.

Romans 6:23a: For the wages of sin is death; . . .

Isaiah 59:2a: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, . . .

Proverbs 13:15b: . . . the way of transgressors is hard.

Isaiah 48:18, 22: O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: 22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
